Introducing Kings Norton Library
30/09/2024
Welcome to all our new students! We are looking forward to meeting you soon.
You will find Kings Norton Library in the centre of the Cranfield campus, and it is open 24/7 to all staff and students. It is a great place to study and you can also use our self-service machine to borrow and return print items from our collection.
Getting started
You have a lot of information to absorb during your first weeks at Cranfield! You can find an overview of our services for new students which includes a short video and an introductory leaflet (PDF) depending on whether you prefer to watch or read!
Our Librarians
We have a team of Librarians to support you. Teaching and Learning Librarians support taught courses; they know your Course Director and the modules you are undertaking. Research Support Librarians support PhD students and researchers; they understand your area of study and know your Supervisor. You will have a designated Librarian throughout your studies, and you will meet them during your induction period. They are your main point of contact when you need help using the resources in the library.
Online resources
The majority of our resources (databases, eJournals and eBooks) are available on our website, so you can access them 24/7 from anywhere using your University network username and password.
Library Search is a great place to start, because it allows you to search across our printed collection and a broad selection of our online databases. We recommend you search specific databases individually when you need to find more targeted content relevant to your particular subject.
Study space
Kings Norton Library offers a variety of group, individual and silent study areas – please look out for the signs to make sure you are sitting in the right area! There is also a large PC Hub on the ground floor, which is very popular.
Talk to us!
There is a Welcome Desk on Floor 1 which is staffed 9am-6pm Monday-Friday and we offer daily drop-in sessions with our Duty Librarian and academic skills advisor. Please ask us if you need help.
You are also welcome to contact us online if you need help and either you, or we, aren’t in the building. We offer 24/7 online chat on our website, which is staffed by academic librarians from across the globe when we aren’t working. Or you can email us – library@cranfield.ac.uk. The account is staffed during our working hours so if you contact us overnight or at the weekend we will get back to you as quickly as possible on our return. If we can’t answer your question quickly by email we will arrange a time for a telephone or video call with you, whichever you prefer. You can also contact your Librarian directly for one-to-one support when you need it.
