Moving with the times: The ‘new-look’ Cranfield Management MSc
13/02/2025

For more than a decade, the Cranfield Management MSc has been at the forefront of management education worldwide.
Ranked best Management MSc in the UK for value for money and international student experience by The Financial Times in 2024, it continues to be one of the world’s leading full-time postgraduate management education programmes. But this doesn’t mean the team behind the course is standing still.
Unveiling its ‘new look’ for the 2025/26 academic year, programme director Professor Michael Dickmann takes us through the latest improvements to the format and explains the rationale for change…
Tell us about the Cranfield Management MSc – who is it for and what does the programme offer participants?
The Cranfield Management MSc is designed for early career professionals, so those with around 12 to 24 months of working experience. Its appeal is deliberately broad – we have students from all industries, educational backgrounds and nationalities take the programme. This opens up new career pathways for them.
We are in the business of developing hands-on leaders within dynamic organisations. We aim to equip participants with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to not just succeed at their job, but to stand out from the crowd and to shape the future of their organisation. Alongside leading-edge management theory, we teach participants the practical tools they can use in their work and encourage them to take an evidence-based approach to management, leveraging the ready availability of data in today’s world and making better management decisions by acting on it.
We also provide a wealth of practical experience to mould successful managers. A business study tour to Spain opens up their international horizons and they work on a live strategic consultancy project advising senior managers. Throughout the course we use business simulations, role plays, case studies and other interactive exercises to immerse students into the reality of business. Crucial in that is the three-month company internship, which gives them ample opportunities to put the skills, knowledge and behaviours they learn into practice in real-life scenarios.
Finally, our leadership development training gives them insight into themselves as leaders – their strengths and weaknesses, motivations and drivers – that they can use to understand others and how to lead individuals and teams. This all helps the students to grow, to adapt to the changing business landscape and to refine their leadership approaches, which is crucial for their career success.
The programme has a long history of success, with many successful alumni and performing consistently well in the rankings. In this context, why change anything at all?
It is true that the Cranfield Management MSc is one of the world’s leading management education programmes, but that is precisely because we do not stand still. As one of the still very few business schools to hold the triple accreditations of AACSB, Equis and AMBA as well as various other accolades in terms of entrepreneurship, small business management and responsible education, Cranfield has never been one for resting on its laurels.
Our mission for our Management MSc is to create evidence-driven, technology-savvy entrepreneurial leaders for a volatile, changing world, while also enhancing cross-cultural insights and capabilities in global business. As the world around us continues to change, and the business landscape adapts to suit, so too must our programme content develop to keep pace with the dynamism in the marketplace. Our continued success in doing this is reflected in our accreditation by the Chartered Management Institute, which awards another degree to students who complete our programme.
We believe the changes we have made to the programme for the 2025/26 academic year only strengthen it, further reinforcing the long-standing excellence of the Cranfield Management MSc.
What are the changes you’ve made to the programme for 2025/2026?
Our redesign enhances the close-to-industry content, international experience and leading-edge work experiences that have contributed to the programme’s ongoing success.
We have strengthened crucial modules in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, entrepreneurship and sustainability. Students can choose to specialise in one of three areas – corporate sustainability, human resource management or entrepreneurship – alongside the general management curriculum, and all now benefit from the same international study tour, senior management consultancy and internship opportunities.
All programme participants – whether specialising or not – take part in a one-month trip to Spain. On the Iberian peninsula, they drive a live strategic consulting project for a company, during which they work on cross-cultural challenges and enjoy the cultural attractions of Granada and Valencia.
We also continue to offer all students the chance to undertake a three-month company internship to enable them to network, enhance their career prospects and apply some of the knowledge they have gained in a real-world environment. This is an outstanding feature of the programme, and we have managed to offer more internship projects than we had students in each of the last 10 years. During the internship, students work on strategic projects while supported closely by a company mentor and their academic supervisor.
In recent years, there has been a surge in popularity worldwide for so-called MiM programmes (Master’s in Management). Given such choice, why should people come to Cranfield?
If I were to answer that question, I would say that I honestly believe that our course has the edge when it comes to equipping participants with the practical knowledge, consulting experience and leadership skills they will need for the future.
As a university, we are passionate about enabling the practical application of knowledge. Most of our faculty have worked in business or industry – and we bring that knowledge to our teaching.
However, I’ll leave the last word to one of our alumni…
Romina Dawson-Hall is a Group Human Resources Director and a member of the external advisory board that meets regularly to evaluate our Management MSc to ensure it continues to meet the demands of the current business market and environment.
“Cranfield’s Management MSc has been thoughtfully redesigned to meet the evolving needs of today’s dynamic business environment, equipping students with the critical skills, innovative mindset, and global perspective required to excel in modern leadership roles.

I am confident that these enhancements will further strengthen the course’s reputation as a leading choice for aspiring management professionals.”
