Salone del Mobile Milano 2023: My Experience and Learning Curves
09/05/2023
As a representative of Cranfield Centre for Design Engineering and Cranfield University, I recently had the privilege of attending the Salone del Mobile Milano 2023 fair. The theme for this year’s event was “BUILDING THE (IM)POSSIBLE: Process, Progress, Practice,” the question being addressed is “Design: DOVE VAI? (Design: WHERE ARE YOU GOING?)” and it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our works and engage with other professionals and students in the design and engineering fields.
The Salone del Mobile Milano Fair is one of the largest events on the international design calendar and takes place every year at the Rho Pero Exhibition Centre in Milan. It features product launches and installations that showcase design innovation on a global scale, along with a range of events taking place throughout the city.
The fair was held over six days, and it was an intense and rewarding experience. With over 28 Design Universities and 400,000 visitors, we had a booth set up to showcase Cranfield University and the innovative work that is being carried out within the institution. The team presented projects that demonstrate how design plays a crucial role in solving problems and achieving objectives. These case studies exemplify how design is an integral part of Cranfield’s ethos, as we strive to tackle social and environmental challenges through innovation and problem-solving in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
One of the highlights of the fair for me was the opportunity to attend some of the talks and workshops that were held throughout the event. There were some incredibly inspiring designers who shared their experiences and insights into the design field. I learned a lot from these creative professionals and other design students, and it was fascinating to hear about the latest trends and innovations in the industry and how designers can co-create and make the world a better place.
Another highlight for me was the chance to showcase my group project at the fair to get insights from design students and professionals. We received a lot of positive feedback from attendees, and it was great to see people engage with our innovative ideas. It was also an opportunity to receive feedback and suggestions from other professionals, which will help us to further develop and refine our work in the future.
Overall, the Salone del Mobile Milano 2023 fair was an incredible experience for me. It was a chance to meet other professionals and students in the design and engineering fields, learn from their experiences and insights, and showcase our own work and projects being carried out at the most prestigious university, Cranfield. I’m excited to take these experiences and insights back to Cranfield Centre for Design Engineering to further develop and improve our work.
Attending the Salone del Mobile Milano 2023 fair was a marvellous opportunity, and I’m grateful for the chance to have been a part of it. I would highly recommend the event to anyone who is interested in design and innovation, and I’m already looking forward to attending future events.
Choose Cranfield University. Choose Design Thinking.
