A key strength of the Management MSc: Thesis-linked Internships for all students
12/05/2025

What drew me to Cranfield was not just its reputation, but the practical, real-world approach embedded in the curriculum. The course offers the chance to work on live case studies with companies and even includes an option to undertake an internship as part of your thesis. This hands-on structure strengthens core management fundamentals and brings theory to life in a way few other programmes do.
One of the most valuable elements of studying the Management MSc is that essentially all students undertake a thesis-linked internship. I am thrilled to have secured a role with TUI Airlines as a Procurement Strategy Officer, an opportunity made available through the School of Management. The process of securing this internship began right from the start of the academic year, with Cranfield’s Careers and Employability Team playing a vital role throughout.
From day one, the careers team supported us with CV-building workshops, interview preparation, and cover letter guidance tailored to each student’s goals. I made full use of the resources on ‘Simplicity’, Cranfield’s career portal, to refine my documents. Before applications opened, we were asked to submit our sector and role preferences, along with ranked choices, allowing the team to match us with relevant opportunities. They then followed up with individual consultations to help us clarify our goals and plan our approach.
Among the roles presented, the Procurement Strategy Officer position at TUI stood out. It combined everything I was looking for market research, business development, and strategic recommendations and aligned perfectly with my goal of becoming a strategy consultant. I researched the company, tailored my application carefully, and worked closely with my careers adviser to perfect it. Once shortlisted, I approached the interview confidently, clearly articulating my motivation for the role, what I hoped to contribute, and how I could support the company’s objectives.
Cranfield’s academic environment was key in preparing me for this success. Although my background is in mechanical engineering and I previously worked as a Project Manager at an SME, the programme helped me bridge the gap between technical experience and strategic thinking. Modules focused on real-world problem-solving and frequent presentations gave me both the knowledge and the confidence to perform well during the application process.
Beyond academics, Cranfield offers a vibrant and supportive community. I served as Sponsorship Lead for TEDx Cranfield University, gaining valuable insight into event management and professional engagement. The campus is not only equipped with excellent facilities but also provides an environment that encourages focus, collaboration, and growth.
For anyone considering Cranfield, I would say this: take full advantage of the resources available to you. Engage with the Careers Team early, explore opportunities, and get involved in as much as you can. It’s an experience that opens doors and the internship at TUI Airlines is just the beginning of mine!
