Top tips to help you prepare for our Open Day
06/03/2025

Our Open Days offer a fantastic opportunity for you to really get a feel for the community here at Cranfield, and we want you to get the best out of it. We’ve got so much to show you and tell you about, so they can be a bit overwhelming too – here are my top tips to help you prepare for, and make the most of, the day.
- Explore the courses we have to offer
Hopefully, at least one of our courses has caught your eye – that’s why you’re coming along to our Open Day! For some of the activities, we might assign you to groups based on the preferences you’ve shared in the registration form. But it’s definitely worth having a look through our prospectus at all of the courses we offer – many overlap or cover similar topics, so there may be one even better suited to you that you’re not aware of just yet.
Don’t worry if you’ve already registered with other preferences, our networking lunch brings all guests and academics together, so it’s the perfect opportunity to chat with a variety of people.
- Look through the event programme
We try to get the right balance between sharing lots of information, showing you around and giving you time to have conversations and explore our campus. We always share the days’ programme in advance, so have a look through and get in touch if there’s something else you’d like to find out about and we’ll see what we can do.
- Prepare some questions
We make sure that a whole range of people are available to chat with you throughout the day; from academic staff members, student ambassadors and those who are there to support you during your studies.
While you don’t need to have lists of questions for every possible person you could meet, it’s a good idea to think of some general interest questions. This is your opportunity to dig a bit deeper into, or perhaps get a more personal viewpoint of, life at Cranfield.
- Bring someone with you
Choosing a university for your postgraduate studies is a big decision, there’s no denying that. You need to make sure that the course is right for you, our facilities meet your needs and perhaps whether our campus (or somewhere nearby) is somewhere you’re happy to live. That’s why we encourage you to bring a guest (or guests) with you, and for them to ask any questions they may have, to help make your decision – we even provide them with lunch too!
- Plan your journey in advance
It’s worth making sure you know the best way to get to us and how long it’ll take you before you set off. We’re well connected to Milton Keynes, Bedford and the M1.
Have a look at the free bus services we offer between our campus and the bus station in Milton Keynes to see if this can help with your planning. There’s plenty of parking on campus, including a few BP Pulse electric charging points, and we do have overnight accommodation available for you to book, should you wish to.
Ultimately though, if you do get delayed on your way to us – please don’t panic! Our Open Days run until 3pm and we’ll do our best to introduce you to the people you’d most like to see if you miss the scheduled opportunity.
- Finally, be prepared to be impressed!
We’re all so proud of what we do here at Cranfield and are excited for you to join our community. If you don’t quite get all the information you need or want to carry on a conversation you start on the day, we’re more than happy to share our contact details and keep in touch with you after you’ve gone home.
We can’t wait to meet you, and if there’s anything we can do, or need to know, to make sure you get the most out of our Open Day, do let us know.
If you haven’t yet registered to attend our next Open Day visit our website to book now.
