How do I reference Facebook and Twitter… in the Cranfield Author-date style?
07/01/2016
When referring to social media in your assignment, you’ll need to remember to provide a citation and reference, just like you would for anything that isn’t your own work or idea. Here we’ll explain how to reference Facebook and Twitter, the two most commonly used social networking websites, in the Cranfield Author-date style of referencing.
What to include in your reference:
- Author (surname, initials)
- (Year site published/updated)
- ‘Title of page’
- Title of Internet site
- Day and month of post
- Available at: URL
Example:
Cranfield University Library (2015) ‘Timeline’, Facebook, 10 August. Available at: https://www.facebook.com/cranfieldlibrary (Accessed 10 August 2015).
What to include in your reference:
- Author’s username as written
- (Year)
- Write whole post as title
- [Tweet]
- Day and month of tweet
- Available at: URL
- (Accessed: date)
Example:
KNL_MIRC (2015) We think this intellectual property online training from the IPO is really good! A section on STEM too http://www.ipo.gov.uk/blogs/iptutor/ [Tweet]. 11 June. Available at: https://twitter.com/KNL_MIRC/status/608923933920911360 (Accessed: 10 August 2015)
If there are any other social media sites that you would like to know how to reference then please leave a reply to this post.
