Researching… the alcohol market
22/12/2016
Coming up to the festive season, what better time is there to research the alcohol market!? So which of our library resources would be the best places to look?
Mintel
This would be our first port of call if we were interested in the UK market. Mintel has reports on various sectors of the alcohol market including cider, wines, dark spirits and liqueurs. Each report includes information on the market (size, segmentation, drivers), consumers (attitudes, consumption and trends, etc.) and major players along with company and brand shares, etc., and includes a databook with raw survey data.
Anything else I should know?
Users must accept Mintel’s Conditions of Use to access the site. Reports updated every 12-24 months.
Passport
If you’re looking for data on other countries, check out Passport. For most countries, Passport has reports on individual sectors including beer, wine, spirits and cider / perry alongside an all-encompassing alcoholic drinks report. Each report gives an overview of the local market including key trends, market background, business and operational environment, market indicators and data. You will also find links to related reports and statistics displayed on screen.
FitchConnect
Within a section called BMI, FitchConnect provide reports on Food and Drink for most countries across the world. Although more general in their coverage of the market, each report features a section specifically on alcoholic drinks and includes some very useful 5 year industry forecasts.
Anything else I should know?
Reports updated quarterly.
IBISWorld
Includes various reports on the alcohol industry. These are written from a more industrial perspective, so are primarily focused on the production side. IBISWorld’s content includes reports on the production of wines, spirits, cider and beers. Each of these covers industry performance, outlook, supply chain, competitive landscape and operating conditions, key players in the market and provides a variety of downloadable statistics.
Anything else I should know?
Reports updated every 4-6 months.
