Finding industry profiles in Library resources
20/02/2025

When researching an industry; its size, value and performance; competitors, brands and trends in the market etc., we recommend having a look at the following services. These can all be accessed via the Library’s Industries and markets resources page.
BMI Research
FitchSolutions’ BMI service provides in-depth industry reports for 22 industries both globally and across 200 countries. Reports cover industry structure, size, key players and a SWOT analysis. All industry reports also include both 5 and 10 year forecasts.

IBISWorld
These reports are designed to give a detailed understanding of a sector. They cover industry performance, supply chain, competitive landscape, operating conditions, major players and future outlook. Industries are listed by SIC and NAICS codes. Our subscription includes UK, USA and global reports.

Other sources:
You will also occasionally find good industry profiles from sources such as MarketLine in our journal databases – although coverage will not always be comprehensive – so do also try EBSCO Business Source Complete and ProQuest One Business if you are not finding much. Statista will also give you some industry coverage. Again, this is not consistent across all sectors, and is very data-focused, but it can be very useful for niche industries.
