Getting ready to hand in your thesis?
11/07/2019
You are nearly there! Many of our current students are starting to think about finishing their theses. If you are one of them, then you might find this post useful as you write up your masterpiece and get ready to hand it in.
Formatting and templating for your thesis
Hopefully, you already know this, but the Library has published Guidelines for the layout and submission of your thesis on our intranet. You will need to conform to these so make sure you have read them thoroughly.
The IT staff also provide a Word template to help you format your thesis. Using a template will help you to achieve a consistently formatted document and will allow you to automatically generate a table of contents and lists of figures and tables, with appropriately numbered pages throughout. You can access the thesis template and read the guidance online.
If you need extra help, you are welcome to drop in to the IT Training team for support with formatting your thesis any time during office hours, or book an appointment with them via ittraining@cranfield.ac.uk. The Service Desk will also offer out of hours support during the hand-in period, and will be extending their opening times over the weekends. Please check the intranet nearer the time to find out which weekends they will be available.
Submitting your thesis
When do I need to hand in my thesis? Where? What do I need to submit? How do I submit a copy to TurnItIn? What happens next? When will I get my results?
For answers to these questions and many, many more, visit the Thesis Hand-In FAQs on the intranet.
And finally…
Try to stay calm! We know it’s easy advice to give, but try to make time to relax, sleep and exercise. Eat well, and be kind to yourself.
If you find you are getting too stressed, please get in touch with the Student Advice Centre. You can either drop in during office hours, call them or email (no appointment necessary) and our Student Advisors will be happy to help you talk through your worries.
Good luck!!
