Embracing Race Equality Week 2025: Every Action Counts
03/02/2025
This week is Race Equality Week 2025 (3-9 February). This year’s theme, #EveryActionCounts, emphasizes that every small step we take contributes to a larger movement towards a more equitable society.
One way to get involved is by participating in the 5-Day Challenge. This initiative encourages everyone to take just 5 minutes each day to engage in activities promoting self-reflection and action towards race equality. Each day focuses on a different theme:
- Day 1: Intersectionality – Understand how different aspects of our identities intersect and impact our experiences.
- Day 2: Recognising Privilege – Reflect on how privilege operates in our lives and how we can use it for good.
- Day 3: Inclusive Language – Learn about the importance of using language that is inclusive and respectful.
- Day 4: Code Switching/Masking – Explore the concept of code-switching and its impact on individuals.
- Day 5: The Big Promise – Make a commitment to take action and drive change in your community.
Each challenge asks thought-provoking questions and provides suggested actions each of us could take. It also provides short videos and suggested reading to further knowledge. On the final day, it focuses on the Big Promise, which is all about commitment, transparency, and accountability.
We encourage all staff and students to take this week as an opportunity to reflect on what race equality means to you. Share your thoughts, experiences, and ideas. Your voice is crucial in our collective effort to create a more inclusive and equitable environment. Please feel free to comment on this post or email us at library@cranfield.ac.uk.
Together, let’s make every action count and continue to build a community where everyone can thrive.
