Important changes to research publishing policies
02/02/2024
There have been a number of changes in publishing policy, and in the area of research support, since the start of the year.
New Institutional Rights Retention Policy
Cranfield has introduced an Institutional Rights Retention Policy to help ensure that you, as authors, can keep control over your own work and for Cranfield research to be as open as possible. This policy applies to all outputs submitted for publication from 1 January 2024. In brief, if you need to follow the green route to open access for an article, you can now post your author accepted manuscript (AAM) in the institutional repository with no embargo under a CC BY licence. You will just include a simple statement in the output which makes it clear to the publishers at the submission stage that you assert your rights over your work. This should be done in the Acknowledgements section and in any covering letter. You can read the full rights retention policy and there is more information about rights retention on our website.
Second part of the UKRI Open Access Policy now active
The second part of the UKRI Open Access policy, which relates to publishing books, edited works and book chapters, came into effect on 1 January 2024. If you have a grant from UKRI and are planning to publish in one of these formats, please ensure you know what you need to do in order to be compliant. How do I comply with the new Open Access policy for longform?
Open Research
Cranfield has published a statement on the University website in support of Open Research and we have created a new guide on our Library Services website to explain more.
Get in touch
As always, please email researchsupport@cranfield.ac.uk if you have any questions or need any help, and the Library Services’ Research Support team will be happy to help you.
