All research students welcome to join Journal Club
18/02/2021
The Early Careers Researchers Network and the CDS Doc Com would like to invite you to join and participate in our Journal Club.
Why would a Journal Club be of interest to me you may ask? Engaging in journal club discussions is invaluable to the educational experience of research students. They also further develop the skills of researchers more widely. Participation in a group like this will help you to build up confidence in your presentation skills that will help prepare you for future conferences, both domestic and international. More importantly it will enable you to develop your critical evaluation skills by assessing the quality of published research. Every researcher should possess this crucial attribute to recognise the strengths and weaknesses of research studies.
Besides developing your critical thinking skills, it will enable you to participate in academic discussion. You may also be inspired by the work presented and come away with ideas to try out which will impact your ongoing research.
Journal Club runs the fourth Wednesday of the month, every two months, through MS Teams. We would love to see you at the next Journal Club which is on Wednesday 24 February from 11am-12.30pm. Our presenters will be research students Federica Persico and Encina Gutierrez Carazo. Please join us using the meeting link which you can access on the University Intranet.
If you would like to volunteer for a future session of Journal Club, please get in touch with Lisa Humphreys, Vicki Smy or Mandy Smith.
