A fascinating visit took place this week to the UK headquarters of Esri (UK) Ltd. by MSc students of the MSc in Geographical Information Management (MSc GIM).

Esri are the world’s leading provider of geographical information systems (GIS) and services, producing a range of powerful geospatial analysis and presentation tools. As part of the Cranfield University taught module in ‘Spatial Data and the Internet’, our MSc students undertook a visit to the company’s UK headquarters in Aylesbury to hear about the latest technology developments and uses of these tools. Presentations were provided regarding the various working groups in the company, including data consultancy, pre-sales, technical research and HR. Of particular interest was the description of the current graduate recruitment scheme opening the door to an exciting career in this fast moving sector. What was particularly good feature of the day was meeting former alumni of the Cranfield University course who now work for Esri. Cranfield have a long-standing relationship with Esri, and the Esri suite of software is featured strongly on the course.
