How the UKRI Open Access Block Grant is now being used
11/04/2022

The new UKRI Open Access Policy became operational on 1 April 2022.
In line with this policy, Cranfield has updated the terms for using the UKRI Open Access block grant.
- The Leading Academic Journals list will no longer be used
- The block grant will be used to support article processing charges (APCs) when publishing in fully gold or transformative journals
- It will also support the purchase of transitional deals from publishers (which now includes Elsevier!)
Researchers need to fulfil certain criteria alongside having UKRI funding. This includes stating funder and research data acknowledgements in their articles, choosing a CC-BY licence, and being the corresponding author.
How do I apply for APC support?
Check you meet all the criteria and simply complete the ‘Request an APC payment’ form. To access the form, and full information on the use of the UKRI block grant (and HEIF Open Access funding), see the Library’s guidance on APCs.
