The Just-In-Time Game with Dr Benny Tjahjono
06/11/2017
It was an amazing learning session earlier today with Dr Tjahjono as students from a stream of Logistics and Supply Chain students, 2017/2018 set, participated in a Just-In-Time game.
The session helped us to relate what we have been learning so far in the classroom with practical situations in the factory floor. We all got to appreciate the effect of “MR WOOD” – Transport, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Over-production, Over-processing and Defect wastes on achieving operational efficiency and effectiveness. The elimination of the waste, taking different measures such as reducing set-up time, better factory layout, pulling the products and components through the process using Kanbans were found to be helpful in meeting the customer demands in time, quality and quantities.
It was also interesting to see how the level of inventory – raw materials, WIP and FG – were reduced to a minimum.
Now that we all know how dangerous “MR WOOD” is in our production processes, we are determined to get rid of “him” on our factory floors!
